Terms

For the purposes of this specification, the following terms apply:

ItemOfSupply (IoS)
The item of Supply is the item managed by the supply chain. It could be specified as a Nato Item of Supply Specification (through the relationship to Nato Item of Supply Specification) or it could be specified by a product specification (through the relationship to the Product Specification).
NatoItemOfSupplySpecification (NIoSS)
In the NATO Codification System, the expression "nato item of supply specification" designates an Item of Supply or group of Items of Supply which has been defined by a qualified logistics service to meet a specific requirement. The identification of a NATO Item Of Supply Specification consists of the minimum data needed to meet a requirement and establishes the essential characteristics of the item which both: − give the item its unique character; − differentiate the item from any other item of supply. The complete description of the physical and performance characteristics is given whenever necessary and possible.
