Scope

The following are within the scope of this Data Exchange Specification (DEX):

• The unique identification of a single individual item or multiple individual items;
• The identification of the assembly of the item at a given point in the lifecycle;
• The representation of the end item’s contract acquisition information such as contract number, line item, acquisition cost, prime contractor organization and description;
• The identification of terminating and non-terminating lifecycle events such as abandoned, consumed, loaned, sold, etc. Also includes item status and condition;
• The identification of item versions and the relationship between item versions including changes to form, fit and function, modification and repairs;
• The reference to item design information, i.e. Part;
• The representation of physical or virtual marks assigned to the item;
• The identification of stakeholders such as owner, custodian and manufacturer;
• The identification of which batch or lot an item belongs to.

The following are outside the scope of this Data Exchange Specification (DEX):

• The physical attributes or properties of the item such as weight, measure;
• The physical location of the item;
• Inclusion of item drawings or technical data;
• Specification of the functional use of the item;
• Planned items;
• Representation of work performed on the item;
• Representation of design information e.g. Part with attributes and properties.
