Business Introduction

The Item Identification DEX provides a format for the exchange of a globally unique identifier and associated identification data of individual items/artifacts. The Item Identification DEX may be used to satisfy a requirement for submission of unique item information to a nation’s UII repository, a repair activity, or as a broadcast of individual items available from one nation or entity for use by another nation or entity in a shareable asset environment.

Business Process

The Item Identification DEX deals with information required to uniquely identify an item. The Item Identification DEX also contains information and attributes related to the item, such as:

Item versions including reference to form, fit and function changes;
Reference to part design information for versions of the item;
Acquisition contract information for the item;
Identifying Marks on the item;
Major lifecycle events associated with the item e.g. Stolen, Lost, Sold;
Owning and Responsible organizations for the item;
Parent / Child relationships with other uniquely identified items e.g. a Radio is embedded within a Vehicle.

The item identification data exchange can be used to satisfy a requirement for submission of unique item information to a nation’s UII repository.

Unique item information can also be exchanged between entities and/or nations following a repair or modification activity or a failure occurrence. Version changes (updates to form, fit or function) and associated information can be transmitted in the Item Identification DEX. In addition, item identification information can be used to broadcast the availability of unique items for use by other nations or entities in a shareable asset environment.
