product_usage_feedback Business Overview

This business DEX defines the information that can be fed back after usage of a Platform, System or Equipment (PSE) in-service, to enable the monitoring of the performance of the PSE and/or its support solution. It includes cumulative measures of usage, as well as activity specific usage reports, which will facilitate life-based decisions about continued use and maintenance support activities. It allows for different measurement types, not simply time based.
Examples:- the number of starts and stops of equipments, the average voltages in a vehicle electrical system recorded from HUMS or number of rounds fired from a gun.

The DEX enables reporting of usage in particular types of operating environment (Operational Theatre) and in various roles and, therefore, configurations. It can be readily seen that the airframe and systems such as the landing gear of an aircraft could be stressed in different ways depending on the configuration of the aircraft during a sortie and that this could lead to varying requirements for certain maintenance activities.

The DEX enables documents to be associated with usage that could be used for evidence of usage or for certification purposes. It also allows for exception reporting of extraordinary circumstances (e.g. operating outside the normal operating envelope such as during excessive bad weather) that may be referred to in assessing performance. It is expected that the information supplied through this DEX will be subject to analysis and possibly trend monitoring and that knowledge of the operating circumstances is necessary to enable sentencing of anomalous measurements.
