The information defined by this UK_Defence Business Data Exchange Specification is used primarily to represent the design of the product and is usually provided by the manufacturer. It is used as an input to those processes which then generate specific views of the product to form part of the support solution, such as the various breakdown views.
The information defined by this DEX is used by the following UK_Defence Business Processes:
An example UK_Defence process showing the use of this DEX is provided in Figure 1. Note that in the process model, the class for this DEX is named DEXProductAssemblyStructure.
In this example it can be seen that the “ProductAssemblyStructure” DEX is one input to the “Identify major parts breakdown” process, which is defined as: Import or develop a top down breakdown of the physical parts which make up the capability to identify items likley to require significant support effort.
