Scope

The following are within the scope of this Data Exchange Specification (DEX):

This DEX is applicable to all MoD inventory items used to support the related PSE, not just serialised items.
NOTE Inventory items are not normally tracked to the equipment within which they are finally embodied, unless they are serialised assets of significance within the Support Solution. Supply Chain mechanisms such as Issues, Consignment Documentation, Receipts and Discrepancy Reports ensure the adequate flow of materiel.
Identification of the demand. This will normally be the Demand Serial Number.
Identification of the organization demanding the item.
Identification of the person demanding the item.
Identification of the item demanded by reference codes. Usually identified by Inventory/Domestic Management Code (IMC/DMC) and NATO Stock Number (NSN), the RAF Sect Ref may be used, as well as NATO Group & Class, Nation Code and IIN.
If item references are not known, it may be demanded by description or reference to documentation.
Any details of item that will help in identifying it will be used, such as description and associated equipment type or Manufacturer's Part Number, known stockist, stockist's address or other contact details, WESPIL No, BR 2525 Ref No (Part, Folio, and Index), PIL or IPC (Alphanumeric of PIL/IPC also to be given). Manufacturer's Part Number to be used if no other information available or if it might help identification.
Identification of the item by name (usually Short Item Name).
Quantity and denomination of items required.
Qualifications of whether alternative items of supply or reduced numbers of items are acceptable for delivery or not.
Identification of where stock may be held and/or who the custodian will be.
Date demand raised.
Required Delivery Date (RDD).
Location to be delivered to.
Authority to demand.
Identification of any special requirements, including Justification of Airfreight (For all items not normally warranting movement by air).
Priority of the demand (using the Standard Priority Code from JSP 886).
Activity to which demand is related or Reason for Demand (RFD) e.g. to replenish stocks.
Accounting information e.g. Unit Identification Number (UIN).
Identification of the theatre to which the item is to be supplied (by Theatre Code).
Supplementary information for service specific Supply Chain Management: for example Customer Reference
Secondary Depot Code (Army Use)
Point of contact for queries.
Request for full despatch/flight details and Airway Bill (AWB) numbers as required.
Remarks to allow for supplementary information.
Condemnation codes for permanent items. (e.g. Army AFG1043 or RAF F731)

The following are outside the scope of this Data Exchange Specification (DEX):

Packaging, handling, storage, transportation of inventory item.
Purchasing of items not normally held within the MoD inventory, or purchasing of those items within the inventory that are out of stock.
PSE which item is to support.
Any requirement to identify a particular asset.
