Information Overview

This section provides a high level overview of the business information that can be represented by this DEX. A more detailed overview of the information is described in Aviation maintenance: Business Information Requirements , and a detailed definition of how the information is represented using ISO 10303-239 PLCS is provided in Aviation maintenance: ISO 10303-239 Representation.

On completion of a maintenance or Product In Focus activity, information about the product and the work done to the product is reported by this DEX. This information is summarized in Figure 6 below.

The information exchanged is contained within a message that is sent to the recipients. The following information is exchanged:

Message wrapper
Meta data about the exchange is provided by wrapping the product data in a message. This provides details of when the data was sent, for what purpose, and by whom.
Activity record
A record of the activity being reported. This may be an activity performed by the Product In Focus, e.g.a sortie flown by an aircraft, a maintenance activity done to the Product In Focus, or an activity reporting an arising such as a symptom or fault.
Product In Focus
The Product In Focus that is the subject of the activities. Normally an asset such as an aircraft or major aircraft component such as an engine.
Maintenance activity
The Maintenance activity that was undertaken and is being reported on such as:
Maintenance work order
The maintenance work order providing approval for activities to be performed on the Product In Focus.
Maintenance activity properties
Properties of the maintenance activity such as man hours to complete.
Resources for activity
The resources consumed undertaking the reported maintenance activities.
Product In Focus activity
the activity performed by the Product In Focus, such as a Sortie.
State of Product In Focus
The state of the Product In Focus including fault states and serviceability states.
Properties of Product In Focus
The Life measurement and other properties of the Product In Focus.
Location of Product In Focus
The geographical location of the Product In Focus.
Related components
When reporting on a maintenance task performed on a Product In Focus, it is often necessary to report on state of related components. For example lifing properties on the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU).
Product In Focus installation history
A history of which aircraft a Product In Focus has been installed on and where on the aircraft.
Replaced components
A list of the components that have been replaced during the maintenance activity.
Inventory activity
If the Product In Focus has been added to or removed from the inventory.
