Mention that products are things that can be configuration managed.Comment: (Ian Bailey 2004-05-10)
Surely the products capability should do this ?Comment: (Rob Bodington 04-09-28)
Added line in introduction.
This capability describes how properties are assigned to products (and its subtypes).
A property is the definition of a characteristic of something. It may reflect physics or arbitrary user defined measurements.
Properties can be assigned to products, documents, requirements, activities, and resources (e.g. required resources, managed resources), among other things.
The purpose of the this capability "Assigning Properties to Products" is to describe how properties are assigned to products and their subtypes (things that can be configuration managed).
EXAMPLE assigning properties to parts (mass, material finish, etc.)
EXAMPLE assigning properties to requirements (availability, reliability, etc.)
In order to give those properties values, the capabilities C079: representing_properties_numerically, C084: representing_property_value_ranges and C080: representing_properties_textually should be used.
Properties can also be assigned to documents, processes (e.g. Activities and activity_methods) and resources. Details are provided in: C087: assigning_document_properties, C077: assigning_process_properties and C078: assigning_resource_properties respectively.
