safety_case Business Overview

All programmes comprise a number of disparate elements which contribute to, or subtract from, levels of required safety. The safety of an overarching programme depends to some extent upon the safety of its constituent parts. Thus, if the safety of those constituent parts has already been established, then this goes some way towards establishing the safety of the whole programme. Interdependencies or interactions between the lower-level assessments must also be addressed as must safety considerations arising from emergent behaviours of the programme as a whole.

The safety case is relevant to the entire CADMID cycle of the PSE - including: design, development, manufacture, assembly, testing, commissioning, inspection, maintenance, storage, handling, transportation, operational function, and disposal.

This DEX will assist in the recording, representation, maintenance, exchange, and sharing of data comprising: claims concerning the safety of PSE; evidence for those claims; reference to the relevant risks; and evidence of mitigation.
