A "business context" is a context in which a specialized vocabulary is employed. This may be an individual organization, a larger business community, or a particular project (or initiative).
A number of DEXs (Business DEXs) are identified within a given business context and each DEX is defined using the specialized vocabulary of its business context. These are listed in Business DEXs section.
The UK_Defence ISO 10303-239 (PLCS) DEX requirement is driven by the Through Life Support Directorate (TLSD), FLIS LCIA and UKCeB.
Typically both UK MoD and Industry need data to improve reliability, availability, maintainability, engineering & asset management, and supply chain effectiveness when running support contracts. The information exchange requirements (IERs) identified, to be met by PLCS standard exchanges, are satisfied by the UK Defence DEXs.
The shift towards Contractor Logistic Support (CLS) for delivering operational capability now necessitates an even closer information-sharing relationship between UK MoD and Industry. Both parties now require greater sharing of day-to-day performance and operating information in order to execute their part of the CLS contract which in turn affects availability of equipment for front line forces. The UK_Defence DEXs are designed to address the requirements of both UK MoD and Industry in the context of these new partnering and contracting arrangements for CLS.
NOTE The original development was under the TLSS (Through Life Support Standard) business context. Therefore within diagrams in the UK Defence business DEXs and business templates, any occurrences of 'TLSS' should be read as equating to UK_Defence.
