Scope

The following are within the scope of this Data EXchange Set (DEX):

• The representation of causes of faults (failures);
• The representation of faults as states;
• The relationship between two or more fault state definitions;
• The representation of the consequences of fault states;
• The representation of the likelihood of a cause, fault state or consequence occurring;
• The identification and definition of fault states;
• The characterization of fault states namely: by predictability or detection method;
• The identification of the context of fault states: e.g. operational environment, mission phase;
• The definition of a loss or degradation of a function as a fault state with related properties.
• The relationships between fault state definitions and:
  • the product;
  • the product breakdown structure;
  • the elements within product breakdown structures: such as physical, logistic, zonal, functional;
  • the assembly;
  • the elements within assembly structures such as parts used and attachment slots.

The following are outside the scope of this Data EXchange Set:

• Fault states for individual products;
• Tasks required to manage failure modes;
• Work orders for design change produced as a result of failure mode analysis;
• The identification of parent-child relationships between functional or physical breakdown elements.
