MoDAvDEX Business Information Overview
The following messages shall be supported:
MoDAvDEXmessage_geographical_change
A message containing a record of a change of geographical location of a reportable item
(asset). i.e. when a reportable item has moved to a new location.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the previous location;
- the new location;
- the date when the change occurred.
It may also include:
- a record of the activity that lead to the change of location.
This message shall be sent when the change of geographical location is recorded.
BAE Schema message: eventGeographicalChange
This message contains
details of a Geographical Change event, i.e. when an asset has moved to a new location.
MoDAvDEXmessage_ownership_change
A message containing a record of a change in ownership of a reportable item.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the previous owner;
- the current owner;
- the date when the change occurred.
It may also include:
- a record of the activity that lead to the change of ownership.
This message shall be sent when the change of ownership is recorded.
BAE Schema message: eventOwnershipChange
This message contains
details of the change of ownership of an asset, i.e. when an asset has been transferred
from one owner to another.
MoDAvDEXmessage_serviceability_change
A message containing a record of a change in serviceability status of a reportable item.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the serviceability status;
- the start and end validity dates of the status.
It may also include:
- identification of the maintenance work order that was raised when the reportable
item became unserviceable;
- identification of the maintenance work order, the completion of which, resulted in the
related asset becoming serviceable.
NOTE
Details of the maintenance work order that lead to the serviceability changes, any
work done to the reportable item, any faults identified and addressed are provided in
maintenance messages.
This message shall be sent when the change in serviceability status is recorded.
BAE Schema message: eventServiceabilityChange
This message contains
details of a Serviceability Change event, i.e. when an asset has changed serviceability
state.
MoDAvDEXmessage_symptom
A message reporting when symptoms are associated with a reportable item. A symptom is an
observation of asset behaviour that was unexpected and affected the performance of the
asset.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- an identification of the observation;
- an identification of a request for work to investigate the symptom;
- when, how, on which system and by whom the symptom was observed;
- how the asset was being used when the symptom was observed;
- the effect that the symptom had on the usage, including any hazards or safety
consequences.
This message shall be sent when the symptom is recorded.

MoDAvDEXmessage_scheduled_maintenance
Previously called: LITSmessage_asset_maintenance
A message containing a record of a standard maintenance task that has been scheduled,
authorized to be performed on a reportable item and may have been completed.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the work order that initiated the maintenance activity;
- the standard maintenance tasks performed;
- the time and resources consumed.
It may also include:
- any parts removed and fitted;
- the parent and end assets for which the work order was raised;
- any related work orders;
- the life of the reportable item consumed by the maintenance activity e.g. engine run
hours during testing;
- if the work order has been extended, e.g. the work order was due at a 1000 flying
hours, it is now due at 1100 flying hours.
This message shall be sent when:
- the work order is raised,
- any parts are removed or fitted,
- and the work order is complete or extended.
BAE Schema message: eventMaintenance
This message contains details
of a Maintenance event, i.e. when an asset has undergone a maintenance activity.
MoDAvDEXmessage_scheduled_engineering_instruction
A message containing a record of an engineering instruction that has been scheduled,
authorised to be embodied on a reportable item and may have been completed.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the work order that initiated the work;
- the engineering instructions embodied;
- the time and resources consumed.
It may also include:
- any related work orders;
- any parts removed and fitted;
- any changes to part number, supplier, or NSN of the reportable item as a result of
embodying the engineering instruction;
- the parent and end assets or the reportable item against which the engineering
instruction was
raised;
- the life of the reportable item consumed by the maintenance activity e.g. engine run
hours during testing;
- if the engineering instruction for the embodiment has been extended, e.g. the embodiment of the
engineering instructions was due at a 1000 flying hours, it is now due at 1100 flying
hours.
This message shall be sent when:
- the work order is raised,
- any parts are removed or fitted,
- and the engineering instruction is complete or extended.

MoDAvDEXmessage_unscheduled_maintenance
New message
This message allows a distinction to be made between
maintenance activities done to address faults etc, and activities done in response to
standard maintenance tasks. This will subsume the previously proposed:
LITSmessage_asset_fault.
A message containing a record of an unscheduled maintenance activity that has been
performed on a reportable item. Unscheduled maintenance activities are typically activities
addressing faults.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the time and resources consumed;
- the work order that initiated the maintenance activity;
- the parts removed and fitted.
It may also include:
- the parent and end assets for which the work order was raised;
- the standard maintenance tasks performed;
- any related work orders;
- the symptoms, faults or failures addressed
- changes to serviceability status as a
result of performing the maintenance activity;
- the life of the reportable item consumed by the activity e.g. engine run hours during
testing;
- identification of the part that failed leading to the fault;
- if the work order has been deferred - and if there are limitations of
use/capability
This message shall be sent when:
- the work order is raised,
- any parts are removed or fitted,
- and the work order is complete or extended.
BAE Schema message: eventMaintenance
This message contains details
of a Maintenance event, i.e. when an asset has undergone a maintenance activity.
MoDAvDEXmessage_asset_lifing_extension
A message containing a record of an authorized extension to the life of an asset.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the maintenance work order that is extended;
- the standard maintenance task(s) that is/are extended;
- the amount by which the life is extended.
It may also include:
- the parent and end assets.
This message shall be sent when the life of an asset is extended.
BAE Schema message: eventLifingExtension
This message contains
details of a Lifing Extension event, i.e. when an asset has an authorised life extension
applied to it.
MoDAvDEXmessage_asset_fault_extension
A message containing a record of an authorized deferment of the maintenance activity to
address a fault.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the maintenance work order that is deferred;
- the standard maintenance task(s) that is/are deferred;
- the fault whose rectification has been deferred.
It may also include:
- the parent and end assets;
- limitations of usage.
This message shall be sent when a fault is deferred.
New message
This is a new message.
MoDAvDEXmessage_consumption_of_life
A message containing a record of an activity, other than a sortie that has consumed the
service life of one or more assets. E.g. an increase in Flying Hours or a particular
Fatigue Index.
This shall include:
- the reportable item that has had some of its life consumed during the activity;
- the activity that gave rise to the life consumption(s). This could be a usage activity
such as a testing;
- the life property / properties that has / have been consumed.
It may also include:
- the parent and end assets.
This message shall be sent when an activity that has resulted in the consumption of the
life of an asset has been completed.
BAE Schema message: eventConsumptionofLife
This message contains
details of a Consumption of Life event, i.e. when an asset has consumed some of its
service life. This could be, for example, an increase in Flying Hours or a particular
Fatigue Index.
MoDAvDEXmessage_sortie_feedback
A message containing a record of a sortie flown by an aircraft that has consumed the
service life of one or more assets. E.g. an increase in Flying Hours or a particular
Fatigue Index.
A message containing a record of the usage of an asset.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the sortie flown by the reportable item that gave rise to the life consumption(s). ;
- the type of sortie (e.g. test flight, training run, wartime attack);
- the start time and location of the sortie;
- then end time and location of the sortie;
- the life property / properties that has / have been consumed.
It may also include:
- post usage asset consumption parameter values (e.g. life parameters);
- parent and end asset (of the asset for which the parameter is recorded).
This message shall be sent when an activity that has resulted in the consumption of the
life of an asset has been completed.
BAE Schema message: NOT DEFINED
MoDAvDEXmessage_inventory_loss
A message containing a record of the assets that have been removed from the operators
inventory. For example, this may be when an asset is decommissioned or transferred to
another operator.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the date on which the reportable item was removed from the inventory;
- the new owner or the fact that it is decommissioned;
This message shall be sent when a reportable item is removed from the inventory.
BAE Schema message: eventInventoryLoss
This message is sent in
response to a Customer inventory loss event, i.e. assets have been removed from the
Customer's inventory.
MoDAvDEXmessage_inventory_gain
A message containing a record of the assets that have been added to the operators
inventory. For example, this may be when an asset is transferred from another operator.
This shall include:

BAE Schema message: initialiseCurrentConfiguration
This message
defines the current configuration of an asset in terms of its parent, child and end
assets. Handling both parent and child relationships in the same message will lead to some
duplication, but ensures that we get the correct configuration details for a small asset
set such as SPS. When using this ICD for full A/C configuration, it will be necessary to
drop the child asset details to avoid duplication.
LITSinitialize_engineering_instructions
A message containing a record of the engineering instructions that have been embodied on
an asset.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the set of engineering instructions embodied.
This may include:
- the maintenance work order that performed the embodiment.
BAE Schema message: initialiseEngineeringInstructions
This message
identifies those Engineering Instructions (EI) that have been carried out against a given
asset.
LITSinitialize_work_orders
A message containing a record of the maintenance work orders that have been performed on
an asset.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the set of maintenance work orders performed.
This may include:
- the record of the maintenance activity that was performed in response to the
order.
BAE Schema message: initialiseWorkOrders
This message identifies the
Work Orders against a given asset.
LITSinitialize_standard_maintenance_tasks
A message containing a record of the standard maintenance tasks that have been carried
out on an asset.
This shall include:
- the reportable item;
- the maintenance work order that initiated each occurrence of each task;

- the planned occurrences of any scheduled tasks.
